My friend Naomi and I have never been to Cincinnati so we decided to do a very short weekend getaway.
Keep on reading for my day-to-day adventures!
Day 1, Friday January 17: Travel Day
Cincinnati is about 5 hours drive from St. Louis so once we both got out of work, we hit the road and checked into our hotel. We were both exhausted from the week so all we did on Friday was sleep!
Day 2, Saturday January 18: Exploring Cincinnati
After breakfast at the hotel, we went to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. It was a interactive museum that explored slavery in America. There were also multiple films that made me feel like I was travelling on the Underground Railroad. We did go in January so there wasn’t many outdoor activities to do, but we stopped in at the Krohn Conservatory. The lush greens inside felt great since January in the Midwest always appears bleak.
Cincinnati is known for it’s Cincinnati chili. We tried Skyline Chili and I had the 5 way chili (spaghetti, chili, cheddar cheese, onions, beans). I think the spaghetti was overcooked but I would be interested in trying to make my own version of Cincinnati chili at home. After lunch, we had some down town in the hotel. In the evening, we went to a lounge and then stopped at Graeter’s Ice Cream and tried their Boldly Bearcat flavor. According to them, it’s a mascarpone ice cream with chocolate chips and Oreo cookies.
Day 3, Sunday January 19: Art Museums
Many of the museums opened later since it was Sunday. We first checked out the Taft Museum of Art. This is a private home and private art collection of the William Taft family. There were many rooms with different art pieces. There was apparently part of the home that visitors could view, but it was closed for renovation when we went. Afterwards, we checked out the Cincinnati Art Museum which houses over 67,000 pieces of art. I definitely enjoyed the CAM more than Taft’s private collection of art (which only houses around 800 pieces of art).
All good trips have an end, and our time in Cincinnati had come to an end. I was glad to be back home Sunday night and then have the holiday off on Monday to relax.
