Bryce had never been to Oklahoma before, so when we saw that Adrianna Hicks would be staring in Mary Poppins in Oklahoma City, we thought we would drive there for the show and check out what else was around the town.
Keep on reading for my day-to-day adventures!
Day 1, Thursday June 27: Travel Day
Oklahoma City is about 8 hours drive from St. Louis so all we did on Thursday was drive. We ordered some Thai takeout in Joplin, MO and found a cute park (Garvin Park) to pull over and eat at. It was small but there were picnic tables under a pavilion and that is all we needed.
Day 2, Friday June 28: Exploring Oklahoma City
We woke up and headed to the downtown area. We first stopped in at the Gilded Acorn and grabbed some pastries and coffee to start our morning. We then stopped in the Myriad Botanical Gardens, which is an open garden in downtown Oklahoma City. We walked around the different plants and water features and then headed into the Conservatory, which opened at 9am. It was nice to get an outdoor walk in before it started to get too hot outside!
Our next stop after the botanical gardens was the Museum of Osteology, which explores bones and skeletons. There are over 450 skeletons in the museum with over 7000 different specimens. It wasn’t very big but we spent time reading all of the signs about the different animals.
Our next stop was the American Pigeon Museum and Library. I thought it was fun and quirky but it was really informative and included all this information about Pigeons. The museum talked about homing pigeons during WWI and WWI as well as pigeon racing. There was also information on pigeons that are bred specifically for their looks. The museum houses information on the American Homing Pigeon Institute as well as artifacts of every kind relating to pigeons.
A few blocks from the Theatre was a brewery called OK Cider Co. We shared 4 different samples including a key lime pie cider. I was pleasantly surprised by that flavor. After we had our cider, we walked over to the Lyric Theatre. It was time for what prompted us to OKC - Mary Poppins starring Adrianna Hicks. The musical was fun to see and we were glad we decided to drive for it.
Day 3, Saturday June 29: Factory Obscura
After we went to breakfast and before we headed back home, we decided to check out Factory Obscura, an art collection that is an immersive experience. We checked out their permanent Mix-Tape installation as well as their limited collection as well. It was definitely a different experience. There was even some art that we could sit on, climb up, and slide down on.
All good trips have an end, and our time in OKC had come to an end. I was glad to be back home Saturday night so we could still have a rest day at home before the next work week started.
