Bryce and I decided to take a trip with another couple down to Nashville. We have passed through Nashville but never spent time seeing some of the sites that the city had to offer, so we figured we should spend a long weekend exploring.
Keep on reading for my day-to-day adventures!
Day 1, Friday July 23: Parthenon and Andrew Jackson Hermitage
Our first stop was Centennial Park, where we decided to eat lunch in front of the Parthenon, the only full scale replica of the Greek Parthenon in Athens. While there was an art museum inside, we just walked around outside and walked around the park. It was nice to stretch out after the car ride. A person did come up to ask us for some food. We offered them our premade sandwich wraps, chips, and clementines, but we were told they would prefer burgers and walked away. Actually, while we were getting gas after the park, another person asked for some food. Again, we offered them everything we had and they too told us they wanted a burger.
After lunch, we dropped our friends off at the Gaylord Opryland Resort as they did not want to see Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage. This was the museum dedicated to President Andrew Jackson. We got to see his home as well as gardens outside. After our museum visit, we picked up our friends and went to dinner. For dinner, we found a place called Barr’s Music City Soul Food. I had fried catfish, green beans, and mac and cheese.
Our friends didn’t want to go out after dinner, so Bryce and I went to Southern Gist Brewing Co. I tried the the Passion Fruit Guava Hill (a passion fruit and guava sour), Sugar Baby (a watermelon sour), Double Vanilla Pineapple Creamsicle Hill (a pineapple and vanilla sour), and Barista Berry Hill (a blackberry, black currant, raspberry, and coffee sour). After trying our drinks, we went back to the hotel to get some sleep.
Day 2, Saturday July 24: Hike, Opry, Cheekwood
Bryce and I like to start our day early, so we hit the trails at Radnor Lake State Park by 6:30am. Our friends didn’t want to wake up that early, so they told us to go out without them. After our hike, Bryce and I went downtown and looked at a few of the murals. Since our friends also did not have any interest in the Grand Ole Opry, Bryce and I did a tour down there. Neither of us our big country music fans, but it was an interesting venue to see. We even got to stand on the stage!
We picked up our friends after the Opry tour, and went to Cheekwood, a historic estate with a large botanical garden and a small art museum. The weekend we were there, there was a Lego festival, so there were lots of Lego animals throughout the gardens. After Cheekwood, we dropped our friends off at the Airbnb and got some BBQ and drinks for dinner.
Later in the evening, we all thought we would check out Broadway Street. It was busy and full of country music. It was not really our scene, so we dropped the boys off at the Airbnb and the girls went out for the evening. I am pretty sure Bryce just went to bed.
All good trips have an end, and our time in Nashville had come to an end. I’m glad we got to explore Nashville, but we realized that this city wasn’t our favorite since we aren’t country music fans.
